We pray in desperation and with expectation that God will not only hear our prayers, but answer for His glory and our good.
What is prayer?
Prayer is intentional conversation with God in the recognition that nothing on earth happens without the authority given to Jesus. In John 15:1-5 Jesus is having a conversation with His disciples. In this conversation He uses a metaphor of a vinedresser and a vine. He says, ” I am the vine, and my father is the vinedresser.” The point of this metaphor is found in the subsequent verses.  ” Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” Furthermore in Matthew 28 Jesus gives to his followers what is known as the Great Commission. ” And Jesus came and said to them, “All Authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Prayer is an intentional conversation between people and God. The act of prayer recognizes the authority of Jesus on earth and the need to remain close to Him.
